JARA was started during the first Corona lock-down in spring 2020, when many small sustainable farms in the Netherlands had an unsold vegetables surplus due to the closing of the horeca.

Using vegetables from their own urban farm in Amsterdam West and buying surplus from others they create delicious, healthy and plant rich products. They are still continuing the production by purchasing ingredients from their farming community in the Netherlands at fair prices. Production takes place in Amsterdam from where the products are distributed to the rest of the country.
